The VIP Project

VIP (Violence Is Preventable) is a multi award winning personal safety and abuse prevention programme for children, young people, senior citizens and other vulnerable adults.

It tackles the roots of violence and covers racism, sexism, gender issues, relationships and sectarianism. It addresses all violence including bullying, domestic and sexual abuse, physical abuse and exploitation. It includes work on drugs, alcohol and self-harm. It teaches about all aspects of safety in a fun and non-threatening way.
It has been developed over a number of years by the leading child protection charity Eighteen And Under into a comprehensive and adaptable ‘off the shelf’ series of resources.

Resources include; DVD’s, games, songs, workbooks, stories, quizzes and fun activities. The resources are adapted for hearing and visually impaired children and for those with different needs. It is also available for use with vulnerable adults.

Other groups and projects

HOPE Groups
are support and self-help groups for men and women sixteen years and over who have been sexually abused and / or raped as children or adults. We support adults in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale in the community, in hospital, and through weekly and monthly meetings.

Justice4Victims
Justice4victims.org has been created to provide a service for all victims and potential victims of violent crimes who feel denied justice and protection, and as a platform from which to launch and co-ordinate active pressure campaigning for changes in sentencing policy - changes which finally consider the effects of violence on the victims, and the danger of violence to the public.
